DIY MFA: Prompt #3 Storytelling Superpower

What’s your storytelling superpower? There are 4 archetypes according to this fun little quiz:

  • Disruptor: “Larger-than-life characters who rebel against the status quo. Disruptors will do whatever it takes to change their societies, overcome all odds, and defeat tyranny. Whether by a small but significant personal choice or an all-out revolution. The core of such stories are about sharing ideals with the world.”
  • Protector: “These characters see their world in danger and will do whatever it takes to protect it and those they love in it. They may not wear spandex and capes, but they show almost superhuman fortitude in their quest to prevent disaster, whatever the cost to themselves. They stand up to the forces of evil and protect what they believe in.”
  • Survivor: “These characters will do whatever it takes to survive. Maybe they’re stranded on a desert island, captured by an evil genius, or fighting to beat a terminal illness. Or maybe they want something so desperately that not getting it feels like a matter of life and death. Regardless of their situation, readers will admire these characters for their pluck, determination, and sheer creative willpower.”
  • Underdog: “Relate-able characters who have a deep desire to change something in themselves or in the world around them. From rags-to-riches narratives to epic David-and-Goliath-style battles, these are compelling characters often faced with high stakes that readers can’t help but love.”

My “superpower” is protector, which surprised me. To be honest, that’s the archetype I least identify with and is certainly one I never thought I’d get.

Funny how these quizzes work. There’s not a psychological element to it so I’m not really reading too much into it. Still, it’s a fun little quiz.
